Look for the Yellow House
If you've ever driven down George St Beenleigh you've probably noticed a bright yellow house. It's been there for years, run by 'On the Edge' a charity dedicated to working to help the homeless and at risk.
A year ago they turned downstairs into a coffee shop. As well as fundraising for their long list of services, Cafe Edge is a training venue for local people. My friend and I visited out of curiousity and were very impressed.
The first eating area is black and white and Audrey Hepburn. It is stunning. If you love that era and have the clothes for it, this would be a marvelous place for a photo shoot. Naturally you'd want a coffee or two while you were there.
The tiny back area is green velvet vintage - tiny tables for two and a comfy looking sofa. The walls are covered in old photos, paintings and knickknacks. It feels a bit like visiting Gran or Auntie Maud.
I was ready to order by now but no ... there's more. Out the back under the spreading mango trees are more tables and chairs and armchairs...and a huge tent.
Apparently here you can hire the venue. Recent successful events have included a high tea, a wedding shower and a fashion parade. I immediately started thinking events and reasons to hire this lovely space. Costs seem very reasonable e.g the High Tea was only $25 per head.
The menu was simple but the food was great. I had a bacon and egg toasted sandwich and my friend had pancakes. Reasonable prices too.
