Your next best destination
Looking for a quiet spot for a meal or coffee? Cafe Desto is an undiscovered gem hiding south of the city in Trott Park.

As a quiet suburban cafe where you can catch up with friends in a peaceful environment, it has lots of appeal. Friendly service and the best coffee (in three dine-in sizes) make it an enticing location that has become a regular stop. I usually order a mug but the extra-large mug is great when you want to linger longer.

They open early at 7.30am and are open on Mondays when lots of cafes choose that day to close.

Luke and Sanela opened Cafe Desto in May this year. The cafe has a lovely community hub atmosphere with children's drawings on the wall and children on their bikes on their way to school and kindy, stopping in to say hello. There is a community noticeboard near the door, where locals can leave a business card.

The menu is simple and delicious. Breakfast choices include pancakes, croissants, breakfast burgers and eggs in a variety of ways. The Smashed Avocado, Bacon and Feta on Toast is a favourite of our group.

Occasionally I fall for the Eggs Benedict, which is also delicious. Schnitzels, pies and burgers feature on the lunch menu. The unusual Canadian Poutine Pie had us talking about the ingredients, which turned out to be chips, gravy and cheese.

Cafe Desto also sells handmade chocolates. Envy chocolates are available in a variety of interesting flavours. The cinnamon has my vote but there is also cracked black pepper, orange, sour American, peppermint, strawberry and coffee. Envy chocolates are made by Michael and available online as well as in-store. They are easy to pick up when you want a personal gift to treat a friend or colleague. Coffee beans, drinking chocolates, chai, and flavoured syrups are available for discerning drinkers. Keep up to date with holiday changes to hours by reading their Facebook page.

Stop in at Cafe Desto for inside or outside dining. There is plenty of free off-road parking. You will be glad you came and you will soon be back. It's that sort of destination.
