I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
Cafe Del Mar is a rooftop bar and restaurant overlooking Darling Harbour. The space is suitable for romantic dates, girly get togethers or family functions. The decor is sophisticated and glamorous but the restaurant still manages to have a chilled Mediterranean vibe.
The staff are friendly and helpful and our waiter was happy to offer suggestions regarding the menu. The scallop dish with green pea purée was colourful and tasty but not the best value at $24. Truffle goat's cheese croquettes were bursting with flavour and outstanding for $17, they were soft, moist and a very filling vegetarian dish.
The seafood mezze platter $49 is a good choice for people who can't make up their minds and was served with a basket of bread and some delicious olives. Cooked perfectly and complemented with pickled vegetables and grilled lemon it was a delight to share.
The tables are well spaced and there are areas for private dining. As well as water views outside it is interesting to watch the calm cooperation in the sparkling clean open kitchen. Cafe del Mar caters for groups, events and functions. Please note that there is a10% service charge for groups of ten or more.
