One-stop garden, hardware, outdoor and gift shop with cafe
Café de Grove is situated within "Garden Grove", which appears to be a one-stop shop for home gardeners, do-it-yourself handymen, tradesmen and gift buyers. It offers a specials menu, light meals, coffee and cake and a children's play area.
I intended to just get coffee and cake, but the cakes were so delicious, they left me longing for real food and I ordered a steak and cheese sub with chips I saw some other customers enjoying. This was from their specials board and cost $14.90. Other specials included bangers and mash - $12.90, penne pollo - $14.90 and homemade soup for $10.90.
Around us, I could see couples enjoying an outing and families getting together for multi-generational outings. A few women's groups appeared to have chosen the Café de Grove for their ladies day out as well.
After we had enjoyed our meal, we strolled around the outdoor area admiring the permanent set-up with plants and river flowing through the grounds. The flowers I was most interested in appeared out of season, but that is part of gardening. Garden Grove offers an educational program and coming events included how to grow a grass head in a pot.
The thing that actually impressed me the most was the hardware section. Although we could not find the plant I wanted that day, we bought some clamps for use in woodworking at a very competitive price. If we had needed other tools, we may have been able to find them at this convenient location.
