Part of the Caledonian Hotel in North Adelaide, serves a good range of pub foods with some of the daily specials offering dishes not on their normal menu, such as Asian dishes on Tuesdays. Due to this, we ended up eating there a few times in order to try all the dishes that we wanted.

As expected, offers a good range of steaks which come with chips, coleslaw and your choice of gravy or sauce. We tried their 220g Eye Fillet and 300g MSA Rump and both were cooked to the correct doneness with the rump steak having a firmer texture compared to the Eye Fillet. The fries were fried to golden brown with the coleslaw's slightly creamy taste being a good partner to the steaks. Out of the mushroom and pepper sauces we chose, we preferred the mushroom sauce as its flavour was a bit richer. Thursday is a good day to enjoy steak at as the special is steaks at half price.

A great plate for sharing, 's Bourbon Basted Pork Ribs and Crispy Chicken Wings consist of fried chicken wings with a rack of pork ribs. The pork ribs were tender with a delightful slightly spicy flavour. We thought the chicken wings tasted a bit plain without any sauce. Other than coleslaw and chips, the dish also came with a spicy aioli that you can dip the ribs, wings and chips in to enhance their flavour.

One of the dishes offered as part of their Asian Tuesday special, Kimchi Fried Rice had a soft texture and the distinct spicy flavour from the kimchi the rice is fried with. The fried egg topping the rice was a good balance to the spicy flavour.

The other dishes offered on Asian Tuesday were Fried Chicken and Fried Prawns. Both the chicken and prawns were tender with a delightful savoury flavour from the crisp coating. We all agreed that the prawns were slightly tastier than the chicken. Both dishes came with a salad and mayonnaise to dip the prawns and chicken in.

Seafood Sunday special has a huge Seafood Platter consisting of a generous serving of Salt & Pepper Squid, prawns, battered fish, soft shell crab, chips, marinated octopus and smoked salmon. All the fried seafood was fried to golden brown. We thought the Salt & Pepper flavouring of the squids lacked a bit of punch. The marinated octopus had the right amount of bite with the marinate bringing out its flavour and the salmon had a lovely smoked flavour. The platter came with tartare sauce and a salad that complemented the seafood well.

The café has a relaxed casual ambience with the tables spaced a good distance apart from each other. Off-street parking is available in the carpark at the back of the pub.
