The Harbour Theatre is launching their 2014 season with Café Brosse, a delightful comedy written by prolific British playwright Jean McConnell.
This charming play is set in a rural French town and centres on the private lives of George and Seraphine, the owners of the bustling Café Brosse.
Seraphine is dissatisfied with the routine of her daily life and in particular, feels that George no longer appreciates her. Meanwhile George's longtime mistress,Yvette, is also disgruntled with her current existence, and desires for a comfortable housewife's existence, ala Seraphine.
Perhaps if these two women swap lives, they'll find some happiness? Well, that's what Aramis, the man about town suggests, but things don't quite go to plan ...
George struggles with the situation and receives some unusual advice from Raymond, a regular customer at Café Brosse ... and to make things worse, George's Aunt Marie decides to make an unexpected visit.
In between all this are two young tourists, who are stranded after their car broke down. The tourists must wait in town as it will take a few days to repair their car. In the meantime they seem to be buying an awful lot of the brooms and brushes ...
Award winning director Nicola Bond has assembled an impressive team of actors in this latest Harbour Theatre production, including Kit Leake, Kirstie Francis, Fleur Wylie, Marcus McGavock, Peter Scarrott, Ann Speicher, Verity Wells and Scott Wilson. "Jean McConnell's plays are very humourous and insightful" says director Nicola Bond, "and of course, the best humour always comes from everyday life. The script is played true to the French way of life and the actors are doing a marvellous job with their French accents ably assisted by our French dialect coach Pascale Benkiraine."
Café Brosse will play at the Harbour Theatre Port Cineast Building on March 21, 22, 23*, 26, 28, 29, 30* and April 2, 4, 5.
