Families, picnickers and nature lovers alike would be familiar with Bonython Park, a piece of parklands in the north-western section between the CBD and North Adelaide. Tucked away behind the old Adelaide Gaol and Thebarton Police Barracks, this patch of paradise is a favourite for families with young kids, play dates, picnics, dog walking, cycling and plenty of other leisure pursuits suited to wide green spaces.

Bonython Park Playspace is an excellent playground overlooking the banks of the River Torrens with some of the best play equipment for kids of all ages – flying foxes, water play, giant mouse wheel, swings, climbing nets, and a carousel.

Just next to the playground is a small café & kiosk which has been closed for some time. The great news is this is now enjoying a grand reopening as , with its first day of trade next weekend on Saturday 3 April.

will open with a new menu committed to South Australian brands and products, supporting brands such as Fleurieu Milk, Barossa Fine Foods, Bickfords, Robern Menz, Gelista, Haigh's, Serafino, Melba's, Golden North, Laucke Mill & Balfours, to name a few. The menu will focus on fresh, simple, clean food with 'paddock to plate' local and South Australian ingredients wherever possible.

Visitors will enjoy a café breakfast & lunch menu alongside barista coffee, milkshakes, ice creams, specialty cakes & cupcakes and desserts. Some of the fancier options will also include celebration cakes, strawberry bouquets, crudité platters, charcuterie boards, and high tea – you can even order a picnic hamper to enjoy in the lush surrounds.

Soon they will be offering childrens' birthday parties and school holiday classes – they have thought of everything!

As their grand opening will be Easter weekend, the celebrations will kick off with free hot cross buns, freebies for the kids and a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Opening hours will be 7 days a week from 10am – 4pm. Follow 's Facebook page for more information and be sure to pay a visit soon for a great day out. This spot has plenty of treats - water views, shady trees along the river, ducks, a model boat pond, and plenty of grass for summer sports and sunny picnics - and don't forget to say hello to the SA Police horses grazing in their olive grove home nearby.
