Pleasant jazz piano playing songs of the American Song Book

It is Sunday morning and I am seeking my first coffee for the day and a light breakfast. A few patrons are sitting and chatting outside a charming little eatery, the Cafe Belair. A poodle sits peacefully at their feet. Another couple is reading their morning paper and enjoying their coffees and snacks.

I park my car and enter to the delightful sounds of jazz piano. More patrons are engrossed in their cosy conversations while enjoying the pleasant ambience created by pianist, Pem Gerner, playing the legendary jazz songs of the American Songbook.

I am greeted by the cafe owner, Allon. During our conversation, I learn that many of their customers will know Allon, along with Joanna, Yura and Julie, as they have now been open for nearly one year. Recently, they invited Dr Pem Gerner, known as Pem, to play his enjoyable music on most Sunday mornings. Pem's playing provides unobtrusive jazz piano renditions that allow you to enjoy your conversations and a tranquil atmosphere for reading. It is such a pleasure to enjoy such a relaxing atmosphere, chatting and listening at the same time.

I am sure many of these "American Standards" you will recognise as they have been performed by many of the world's great performers; Ella Fitzgerald, Satchmo, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.

While I was there, I decided to have an Omelette with a light salad, which is a generous and tasty serve. I also had an amazing coffee, that I didn't have to add sugar to, which I appreciated.

The owners are obviously skilled professionals who take pride in creating all of their high-quality food. I look forward next time to trying one of the Korean dishes they prepare. The other thing to keep in mind is they offer a catering service for your cocktail parties, dinner parties and office lunches.
