Cocktails, brunches and more in Berlin's hidden Café Rix
Just beside Karl-Marx-Str. U-Bahn on a busy shopping street in the hip Neukölln district, Café Rix could easily go unnoticed to passers-by. Venturing through the small entrance into a courtyard away from the noise of the main street, the former ballroom that sits before you feels all the more special and secret for its unassuming exterior.
The café oozes old-school Parisian glamour, the history and lost grandeur of the building palpable as you sit in the courtyard with the soothing notes of French jazz playing in the background. Nostalgic setting aside, the food alone will certainly be enough to entice you to. The café provides the ideal setting for food, coffee or evening drinks, offering fresh, light meals for very reasonable prices. Of particular note is the Sunday brunch, a buffet offering a variety of hot and cold foods from smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to croissants and fresh baguettes, with pretty much everything in between. For only €10,50 per person, it is a real treat, best enjoyed in the sunny courtyard when the weather is good. The café offers all-day breakfast every other day of the week, with a good variety of dishes at cheap prices. Visiting in the afternoon? You can enjoy kafe und kuchen for €3,50. When in Berlin.
