Whether you live in Sanur or are here on holiday there are always plenty of things to do with your children. But one you may not have heard of is the Brydhouse Beach Club Kids Day Out (basically a children's craft and play afternoon). You don't have to be staying at the Byrdhouse to enjoy it and in fact, like me, many of the local families tend to visit it.

It's run in conjunction with the local playgroup Cheeky Monkeys. And is aimed at children between 2 and 12 years old. Adults are encouraged to join in if it makes the child feel more settled. With that said, if they are confident then there are plenty of bean bags and sitting areas dotted around meaning you can relax while the children are thoroughly entertained.

The team from Cheeky Monkeys set up on the grassy area near the swimming pool and playground. I'm always really impressed with how much effort they put into it. Every time there's a different theme. So far, I've known a Spring Time one, Dr Suss and even a Moana Island type afternoon to name a few. The most recent one was Wizards and Witches. The whole area was dressed in Harry Potter style flags, broomsticks and black hats with even a few cats and cauldrons to set the tone.

The afternoon starts with face painting while all the children arrive and payments are made. After that, it's a mixture of craft, games and songs for about an hour. Normally there's dress-up opportunities if the children fancy it; like this time they all had Harry Potter capes. When it was a Japan theme they all dressed in kimonos or for the Alice in Wonderland they all made 'mad hatter' hats to wear. The games then vary from super simple to treasure hunts. Or races to dance competitions. I have to say it really is very imaginative.

Just over an hour into the session, they have a rest for food. The food for children is included in the price so careers/parents can order their own. The buffet is simple but the children love it. Burgers, sausage, chips, fruit, doughnuts, water and one scoop of ice-cream each. I've never asked about dietary requirements but it's a very high standard venue so I'm sure they would try to help. After the small snack break, there's normally another game and then it ends at 5 pm.

Just to mention, when you pay you are given a wrist band which permits the use of the pool. If you get booked in early enough in the day you could also enjoy a swim either before or after the event. Or they could simply explore the small playground with all its toys. Personally, my toddler and I just like to wander around the venue to spot the birds, and sometimes rabbits, that roam freely.

Overall, it's a well thought out and delivered afternoon. The children love it and have a ball.

If you're coming to Sanur for a holiday – drop me a comment and I'll keep an eye out for you at the next event.
