Newstead House is not only Brisbane's oldest surviving home, it also has a highly popular regular date with the food truck favourites from
The World Food Markets . As things turned a little crisper at the onset of winter this partnership morphed from a Saturday evening event to a daytime outing on the first Sunday of each month.
By The River With Jazz and Food Trucks will next pop up on Sunday 6 August, and you won't want to be anywhere else.
Newstead House is one of Brisbane's most significant cultural and historical landmarks and tourist sites. It sits majestically within Newstead Park with picture postcard views of the Hamilton and Bulimba reaches of the Brisbane River. It's a magical place that began life as a Georgian cottage in 1846, morphed into a stately residence with major renovations in 1867, and is now a museum that is a testament to life in Brisbane in Victorian times.
So what do you get with the marriage of one of Brisbane's grand old ladies with the hip food truck scene? You'll get a combination of Brisbane food truck excellence from a number of popular vendors, amazing views and ambience and smooth jazz as the accompaniment to your friendly daytime picnic in the park. What could be better on a lazy Brisbane summer day?
It's a family friendly event with FREE entry AND FREE off-street parking near Newstead House and across the road near the Breakfast Creek Hotel. Bring your friends, family and furry companions, throw a picnic rug on the ground and settle in for some family fun.
The Food Trucks
Food trucks for this monthly event change but previous favourites have included:
Greek Street Kantina
In Strada Wood Fire Pizzeria
Juice Power
Mac From Way Back
India on Wheels
Rolls Pho Mi
And the beer-istas on hand for this chilled out event will be the people from
Newstead Brewing Co , a local brewing legend. Acoustic jazz will be wafting through the air along with the tantalising smells from food trucks, so your musical enjoyment is guaranteed.
Don't worry if you can't make it to the August event. By The River - Jazz and Food Trucks will be back during the cooler months at Newstead House on the first Sunday of each month for your eating, listening and all round good time pleasure. Just check the
World Food Markets Facebook page here to keep up to date with the latest dates, vendors and entertainment.
