It's a small thing but a huge morale booster.
Buy Them a Coffee is a social media campaign to buy healthcare workers a coffee across Australia and in New Zealand during this crisis time when they could do with a vote of thanks and a hot drink during their long shifts on the frontline.
Kaylie Smith a marketing manager started the social enterprise in Sydney. "
I was sitting at home, anxious, and felt compelled to try and do something," she said.
"After consulting healthcare professionals online, the most common request for support was for a cup of coffee, [/I"]Ms Smith said.
According to The ABC the founder of the Wollongong initiative, Sally O'Brien also wanted to find a way to support healthcare workers in the frontline fight against coronavirus.
"[I]Our healthcare workers are the frontline in this global pandemic, and having this support from their own community has brought tears to more than a few." Ms O'Brien said.
The appreciation page allows people to pay for a coffee for hospital staff in various locations. You can now buy a coffee for a health worker in major centres including Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Queensland, Sydney, Western NSW (Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst) Tasmania and Wollongong. The movement has extended to New Zealand.
Each campaign teams up with a cafe near a hospital to provide a convenient place for a cuppa for healthcare workers.
The gesture is also two-pronged as your gift of kindness also supports cafes who are struggling with a downturn in trade due to the impact of coronavirus.
The
Buy Them A Coffee Instagram page was also started to enable hospital staff to thank the community. Although health care workers, we know you are busy right now and all the thanks should be directed to you.
Thank you for your work and sacrifice. We hope the gesture reminds you of our gratitude.
