The three wines in my order.

The friendliest of wineries, Moffatdale Ridge Queensland, is located near the town of Murgon in Queensland's South Burnett region. As one of Australia's northernmost wineries, its vineyards benefit from a cooler inland subtropical climate and ideal clay soils. The winery produces several red, white, and sparkling wines along with many flavours of liqueur wines.

As a fan of the country drives in the winery's surrounding area as well as the nearby Wondai Garden Expo, I became keen to try the Moffatdale Ridge wines. This was especially so after meeting a member of the family that runs Moffatdale Ridge Wines, who was running a stall at the Wondai Autumn Garden Expo. I am particularly interested in buying local, and as a Brisbane resident, this winery was very local. To shop local and also enjoy local wine, I thought I could try the wines and promote them as a healthy way to shop local.

To try to obtain some of the products, I searched online and decided to order three bottles from the Moffatdale Ridge website. By ordering online and having the order mailed to my home, I had an opportunity to review the online ordering process and the wines themselves. I decided to order in a way that had a bit of everything without breaking the bank either, at 72 dollars inclusive of a 15 dollar delivery fee.

Ordering
The ordering process was not necessarily seamless, but an email receipt was given, and updates were given up to the point of a tracking number being issued for the delivery. It should be noted that I contacted Moffatdale Ridge, and one of the family explained that the person who handles online orders was away sick. After one week of waiting patiently, tracking was disclosed. As one of the benefits of shopping local, the delivery took only two days after tracking got notified to arrive at my doorstep via Auspost. As seen below, the order arrived well preserved in a package designed to withstand breakage.

Tasting
Having three different wines representing a variety of wines from the Moffatdale Ridge range gave me a really useful sample of the winery's ability to produce desirable wine for its clientele. I really wanted to focus on how desirable the wines were. The wines I tried (with their purchasing pages linked) are as follows: the late harvest red , the sparkling cuvée , and the chocolate tawny . I can state that all of the aforementioned three wines are blended, although the winery does sell purer wines.

My order left a really positive impression, especially the late harvest red, which, although eighty percent verdelho, really suited me, in that I like smooth wines that don't burn the throat, but this particular blend was crisp and very fruity. I'd say it's ideal for consumption with food, particularly Queensland-produced foods. The late harvest combined the two wines that Moffatdale Ridge is more renowned for, namely, shiraz and verdelho.

Regarding the cuvée, it was easy to open without a corkscrew, certainly looked the part, and still tasted nice when served warm, but I've got it chilling in the fridge, and I'm on a diet, which I mention because I'd prefer to try the cuvée with Queensland seafood but instead just have palate cleansers and coffee. While I didn't necessarily become a fan of the cuvée even when it chilled further, the late harvest red was so soft and palatable that I knew I had just ordered a likeable, desirable product from an excellent local winery. As the cuvée chills, however, it definitely gains in taste, and I think it's clearly more telling when it isn't served chilled.

I've tried a tiny glass of the chocolate port; it is just gorgeous, and it will likely complement my coffee. Clearly, a few sips of the late harvest red had me thoroughly engaged with the product and brand. I think that is a really positive sign. I also think it is one of my favourite wine orders I've ever made and I look forward to savouring the wines further. As a dedicated non-drinker, I feel as though I would order these sorts of wines exclusively once or twice a year over other brands. Even if, given my limited capacity to drink wine, with limited orders, I would definitely be seeking Moffatdale Ridge's reserve shiraz and the Turkish delight liqueur wine in a future order.

An important feature of ordering online at Moffatdale Ridge is the bulk buying incentives of a free bottle every dozen bottles (13 for the price of 12), applicable to both liqueur wines and table wines. With free shipping for cases in Queensland at the time of this review's publication, buying the thirteen bottles is thriftier than buying smaller orders, which incur the 15-dollar flat postage fee that is applicable to cases delivered outside Queensland, except Tasmania, NT, and WA, which incur the dearer 25-dollar postage rate. For further information, see the buy online page of the Moffatdale Ridge website.

Conclusively, I've left some vital facts, links, and related articles below to help you shop local and buy Queensland wine and even try a drive out near Murgon to the vineyards, including Moffatdale Ridge .
