I like my coffee with a side of shopping. Maybe it's the multi-tasker in me but I love to get a nice coffee and move into hunt and gather mode. I recently discovered my new favourite spot to indulge myself - Buy Design at Clayfield.

[BREAK]
I've often looked longingly at this magic little shop as I snaked my way along Sandgate Road in traffic. It's perfectly positioned at the lights at Sandgate Road and Junction Road. The often whimsical window displays would catch my attention and brighten my day as I made the journey home.

Then one day I finally made a point of stopping and actually going inside. This place is like a lolly shop for design enthusiasts. On my visit I was looking for a wedding gift for a special friend. I had been looking for a while but couldn't find anything that I felt was the right mix of personal, practical, sentimental and affordable. At Buy Design I was spoilt for choice. In addition to the home wares and gifts sourced from around Australia and overseas, they also stock works by local artists. I got the wedding gift, as well as a few things for the kids (okay, maybe something for me too).

One of the brands they stock is the quirky and completely useful range of kitchen gadgets from the Australian design team Dreamfarm. I just couldn't resist the Tapi sink attachment that turns an ordinary sink into a drink fountain.

What I like about this store is the mix between affordable and inspirational home wares and gifts. Did I fall in love with the carved wooden gorilla? Yes, but he was out of my price range. Did I leave with a bag full of other things that I adored - yes. There are lots of quirky home wares, beautiful children's toys and enough design inspiration to power a home makeover.

Buy Design is connected to the Brisbane Antique Emporium, so if that suits your fancy have a wander next door. If you go, be sure to say hi to the Gorilla for me. I'll be back for him one day.

Buy Design at Clayfield is open 10am – 5pm Monday – Sunday. The on-site coffee shop serves drinks and light snacks (the menu may expand or change). There is plenty of on-site parking and seating areas.
