My brother was down from Darwin and I thought I'd show him the wilder side of city life, after all if I visited him in Darwin, he'd take me into the outback. So the challenge became what could I show him in Melbourne that was the equivalent of our "outback", that would give that same sense of wonder? It was beginning to get dark it was around 6pm - my solution as always was to turn to Melbourne's lanes. As luck would have it down the end of a reasonably empty looking lane we discovered the "Butterfly Club"

We stood at the beginning of the lane reading the sign trying to decide if we could really "blend-in" - after all we might look like a couple of misfits trying to ridiculously assimilate when assimilation was impossible.

We needn't have worried - I think everyone would fit-in at this venue. There are three levels at . The box office is the first thing you come across, however we weren't there for a show, although after looking at the list of shows I think I'll be back to watch one of them, and as most of them go for only about an hour and with tickets ranging from $12.00 to $30.00 everyone can afford to go.

Then there are two levels which are bars, we only staid a short time and the drinks were expensive but the atmosphere and the friendliness of the patrons and "kitsch" was beyond expectation. You have to see and experience it to believe it.

This is not exotic, this is Melbourne, you don't have to stay out late to go, you can go in just for a drink and a peek, or catch the early show at 6 or 7pm and be home by 9pm if that's what you desire - there are no excuses!

Booking - no booking required for the bars, however if you wish to see a show it might be a different matter.
Getting there - train or tram, being in the middle of the city there isn't a problem with getting public transport.
Parking - as always it's expensive in the Melbourne CBD, although I did notice some cheaper venues for parking if you're happy to walk
Disabled Access friendly - no
Kid Friendly - n/a
