I first found out about Butterfinger Candy Bars when I was a little girl, from seeing some of The Simpson commercials for them. There have now been over 150 Butterfingers commercials featuring The Simpsons since 1988.
Most of these commercials have now been released in the DVD extras of The Simpsons television seasons.
Being a huge Simpsons junkie, I just had to try one, but I live in Western Australia & have never had the opportunity to venture to the USA, as of yet. Even since I can remember, every time I see a lolly shop of any description, I have asked if they supply them, always finding that they don't.
But this weekend I happened to be in the WA country town of York, where I happened to stumble across a charming vintage style lolly shop, by the name of Penny Farthing Sweets, where to my surprise & delight, there, next to the front counter was a box of rather large Butterfinger Candy Bars at $3.50 each!
When I got back home that evening, I got out the candy bar and read all the ingredients and was so thankful that I don't have any peanut allergies, as ground peanuts are one of the main ingredients.
I slowly unwrapped bright yellow and blue wrapper and got a whiff of what I'd describe as peanut brittle. I cautiously took a bite, as my teeth sank into the sweet milk chocolate and into the wafer, I was surprised by the taste, it was like peanuts and lightly salted butter, but not quite.
By the second bite, I was hooked; I now know why their original slogan used to be "Nobody better lay a finger on my Butterfinger!" (Which has changed in recent times to "Bite my Butterfinger").
I have never tasted a candy bar that was quite like this and I hope to see it supplied to more stores around suburban areas in the near future.
