Among the eating places located along Melbourne Street in North Adelaide, is a bakery that primarily specialises in sourdough donuts, something that is not typically seen. The range of donuts available is quite diverse, including familiar flavours like Raspberry Jam to more unique varieties like Ube.
The use of a sourdough batter in their donuts made them not as sweet as typical donuts while still having a light and fluffy texture. We liked that their Pandan Donut had a generous amount of filling with a good degree of pandan flavour. Aside from a dusting of icing sugar, the donut had the nice touch of a topping of a cube of pandan jelly.
Compared to the coffee Australians are used to, the coffee filling in the Vietnamese Coffee Donut is not as bitter. Topping the donut was a dollop of the same filling as in the donut, grated chocolate and sugar that had a coarser texture compared to that dusted over their Pandan Donut.
Aside from donuts, the bakery also offered croissants during our visit. The pastry of their Pandan Croissant was crisp and light and baked sufficiently to give it a nice golden brown colour. The pandan filling did not taste too sweet, with some extra topping the croissant. A sprinkling of toasted coconut completed the presentation.
A pastry that Australians are familiar with, their Almond Croissant had a filling with a delectable almond flavour. The texture was not too watery. A generous topping of flaked almonds on the croissant added extra crunch to the pastry. Both of the croissants we chose were lightly dusted with icing sugar to make them more eye-catching.
While the bakery primarily caters for takeaway orders, there are a few seats inside and outside for those that desire to dine-in. If you are looking for a good place to enjoy pastries, consider giving a visit.
