In comparison to running mostly on roads and footpaths around my local suburb, running in the bush feels like a complete indulgence for the senses. The refreshing scents from the native vegetation, coupled with glimpses of native fauna make for a very special experience. Often referred to as "the bush capital" Canberra is a prime location for the
Bush Marathon Festival on the weekend of the 6-7 August 2016.
The Festival is a
fully off-road running and bushwalking event that showcases two of Canberra's stunning nature reserves surrounding
Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura. Whilst all events are "off-road", they take place on well-maintained management trails in the nature reserves, avoiding the peaks and focusing on the undulating trails on the lower slopes. Participants can expect views of spectacular scenery from the higher points of the course, as well as in the valleys.
**WHERE:
**The festival will take place at Mt Ainslie and Mt Majura Nature reserves, near Campbell High School, Canberra (approximately 1km from the city centre)

**WHY:
**The main goal of The Bush Capital Marathon Festival "is to offer a very enjoyable running or walking experience for all participants". The other goal of the Festival is to raise funds to assist the Australian Mountain Running Team.
Australian representatives that travel to the world mountain running championships in Europe will need to self-finance up to $4,000 each year. Funds raised from the Bush Capital Marathon Festival (a voluntary organisation) create subsidies for the Australian mountain running representatives.
