Trees for Life are bringing native plants back to your neighbourhood, your workplace, your kids' school and maybe even your local coffee shop.

Currently on the go around Adelaide are specially designed . This fun project aims to get you involved and inspired about our native plant species. Having some selfie fun can also win you a $50 nursery voucher!

In the basket of half a dozen (or more) bicycles around town are a selection of plants that are native to Adelaide. They are plants that the busy-as-bees Trees for Life volunteers grow at their Westwood nursery and can be easily grown by you at home too.

The project is designed to raise awareness of nature and plant life in cities. Due to development, large areas of native scrub land is disappearing and the plants are fading with them.

By planting one or two of the dozen of choices of native plants, you not only help keep the species going, you'll reap the benefits by attracting birds and butterflies to your garden too. A garden refurbishment just 1 year ago at the Lockleys Primary School has seen many butterflies come to their garden this year - astonishing that it can happen so fast!

The bikes are in the city and suburbs and get moved around often. They'll be in circulation until October, so there's plenty of time to get out and do some Bush Bike spotting. Check them out and take a selfie. Send your photos to the Trees for Life (SA) Facebook page or upload your photos to your social media page with the hashtag #BushBikesADL to be in the running to win a voucher.

Want to design your own Bush Bike to be part of the project? Yes! You can! The more the merrier. Or, if you'd like to host one of the bikes at your shop or workplace, then please get in touch with TFL on [email protected]

The Trees for Life website have some great fact sheets to help you get started on your native gardens at home - there are 3 guides to help you - Coastal, Adelaide, and Wildlife Friendly. Simply head to their website and download the pdf/s.

Trees for Life (SA) is a not for profit community-based organisation, made up mostly of volunteers who work to help restore the natural environment through revegetation and conservation. They have been growing and providing native plants to South Australia for more than 3 decades. They are an active and dedicated group and pride themselves on the quality of their 200 different indigenous species of trees, shrubs, ground covers and grasses, including many rare and uncommon species.

Plants are inexpensive to purchase - you can call into their nursery on the corner of Sir Donald Bradman Drive and May Terrace at Brooklyn Park or you can order seedlings and plants by calling their office on 8406 0500.

The project is funded by the Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Natural Resources Management Board through the NRM levy.

So, be like good fertilizer and help spread the message.
