Twenty-one year old Madison Jackson is a lowly intern at the Boston Lede, desperate to impress the editor before her internship runs out. When a local socialite is arrested for the murders of her husband and son she unexpectedly confesses to Madison. Suddenly, instead of being the reporter, Madison is part of the story and is swept up in a much bigger web of deceit than she anticipated.

Bury the Lede is written by Gaby Dunn, "recovered reporter", author of the young adult novels I Hate Everyone But You and Please Send Help, and host of the Bad With Money podcast. It is illustrated by Claire Roe, of The Wicked The Divine and Batgirl and the Birds of Prey.

Bury the Lede shares some similarities with Greg Rucka's Stumptown , in that it is dark, gritty, and features a bisexual woman as the protagonist. However, Bury the Lede is darker, not only because of the gore and themes of sexual abuse of children, but because Madison has some decisions to make about how far she is willing to compromise her personal integrity for the sake of her career.

The plot has a few twists and turns, but all makes sense in the end, and I enjoyed the art and the diversity among the characters.

Bury the Lede is grim, sexy and so gripping it can easily be read in one sitting.
