The examines the 'open source design' trend and presents it as an optimistic opportunity where everybody can have free access to product designs using specially devised online platforms. But it goes even further, and building on from its initial focus on software, the emerging 'open source design for objects' style has spawned into a global movement. The gallery's purpose-built spaces create an environment where visitors can interact with and share design in new ways. A special feature of the exhibition is 'Open Morph', an innovative, gesture-controlled projection by Inkahoots where passing pedestrians control the animation with their body movements.

The is your opportunity to view the latest work from leading local and international designers. In addition to the work of the practised professionals you will also see the stunning ideas of youth through the displays showcasing the work of students from the University of Queensland, School of Architecture.

Curated by Christian Duell and John de Manincor the Burst Open exhibition seeks to recognise the possibilities and benefits created from within the 'open source design' movement. It is hoped this new approach will discover if, by exploiting the movement, it is possible to solve many of the innovation challenges of the twenty-first century.

Curator Christian Duell, an architect and seeker of new ideas with content that is focused on design, explains, "We are living in the midst of a global revolution in information and technology that is disrupting all parts of society. The open source design movement is one of many other global movements that are changing the way we think about living, creating and doing business."

Fellow curator, John de Manincor, architect, writer, educator and founding director of AO: The Architecture Office, extends this philosophical approach and adds, "One way to consider design is that it is the creative adaptation of existing ideas, materials and systems into something special - open sources makes the origin of those adaptations more explicit."

The is proudly presented by Gallery artisan and supported by the University of Queensland, School of Architecture, Inkahoots, ECOply, CarterHoltHarvey and mMake.
