Immerse yourself in a family-friendly cultural experience
Celebrate over 50,000 years of culture at Burramatta NAIDOC 2017! Entry is FREE!

This year's Burramatta NAIDOC celebrations will take place on Saturday 8th of July, 2017 from 1pm and feature a wonderful showcase of live performances by special guests, Indigenous games and workshops, delicious bush tucker and the Blak Markets!

Come along with all the family and discover why Our Languages Matter.

There will be heaps of exciting things to see and do throughout the afternoon - highlights include:

  • Aboriginal astronomy and star gazing

  • Sound healing tent by ICE Parramatta

  • History tent presented by Parramatta Female Factory, Parramatta Heritage Centre and National Trust

  • Healing tents

  • Blak Markets - Aboriginal art and bush tucker

  • Local market stalls

  • Treasures - roaming Satin Bowerbird performers

  • Parramatta River Catchment - live eel display

  • Free tours of Old Government House, Parramatta Park delivered by National Trust

  • Free bike hire and Indigenous heritage tours from the River to Parramatta Park. Book online - Ride times: 1.15pm and 3.15pm
  • Children of all ages are also welcome to join in a fun selection of interactive workshops and cultural activities. From 1pm to 5pm, there will be:

  • Ochre face painting

  • Jewellery making workshop

  • Weaving workshop

  • Tool making and story telling

  • Mud totem workshop

  • Bush craft

  • Flower arranging workshop

  • Indigenous games – Koori play

  • Language workshop

    The Main Stage program will be headlined by indigenous singer/songwriter Benny Walker, who will perform love songs and epic tales about the land, people, summer vibes and deep grooves.  His recent hits 'SAVE' and 'Oh No You Don't' shot to No. 1 on the AMRAP charts, the latter earning him four NIMA 2016 nominations and the award for "Best Aboriginal Talent" at The Age Music Victoria Awards!

    Plus enjoy live performances with special guests and a special opening and closing ceremony. The Stage Program is Auslan Interpreted.

  • 1pm: Opening Ceremony and Welcome to Country

  • 1.45pm: Uncle Vic Simms - nationally and internationally renowned singer and songwriter, performing for more than 60 years

  • 2.30pm: Wagana Aboriginal Youth Dancers - internationally renowned dance group performing contemporary and traditional dance

  • 2.45pm - History and cultural talk

  • 3pm: The Hand/Simms Family - contemporary and traditional family-style song and dance and didgeridoo

  • 3.15pm: Krista Pav & The Social Fabric - unique local band with a distinctive, soulful sound

  • 4.10pm: Aunty Cindy's Mob - Torres Strait Islander dance performance

  • 4.20pm - Local schools performance - captivating Dharug language song

  • 4.25pm: The Hand/Simms Family

  • 4.45pm: Green Hand Band - soulful band with blues and reggae roots

  • 5.35pm: Benny Walker - award-winning Indigenous singer/songwriter, singing love songs and epic tales about people, the land, summer vibes and deep grooves that reach the soul

  • 6.35pm: Closing ceremony

  • All are welcome to this FREE family-friendly community event which will conclude with a gorgeous fireworks finale at the river from 6.45pm!

    Burramatta NAIDOC celebrations are a short 10-minute walk from Parramatta Interchange.

    Free community transport is also available. Seats are limited and bookings are essential. Call 0477 368 804 to make a booking. Accessible onsite parking is available. Registrations are essential.
