The program notes said celebrating 25 years of high voltage dance. Burn the Floor was all this and much more for myself and friend C, both of us un-coordinated and possessing two left feet apiece.

Burn the Floor celebrates ballroom dance—reinventing and reinterpreting the styles, but remaining focused on its origins. For the past 25 years, Burn the Floor has toured the world, allowing professional ballroom dancers to showcase their love and passion for the art.

This short season in Melbourne boasts an international cast of extraordinary dancers, a very energetic band and two strong vocalists. But really, it's all about the dance.

The cast of 14 dancers seamlessly waltzed, tangoed, cha cha'd, two-stepped, samba'd rhumba'd and jived through a highly energetic set. Beginning with powder-puffed and be-wigged ladies and gentlemen dancing to the Blue Danube the scene shifted to dystopian disturbers of the peace, Mad Max style. The action moves from a steamy Latin nightclub to streets scenes in Seville. The dancers effortlessly keep up the momentum with a series of tightly choreographed routines, barely drawing breath and leaving the audience enthralled.

The soundtrack of familiar songs, some reinterpreted, are sung live by Mikee Intronas and Sharnielle Hartley. Both performers bring their own unique version of the tunes and their voices pack a punch, in particular, Hartley's.

The costumes were a talking point in themselves. Extravagant, sexy and daring, the outfits added to the spectacle and the fun.

All dancers have their own persona and style, and all are enjoying themselves, picking up energy from each other and extending their enjoyment out to the audience. It was difficult to keep still in the seats- we all wanted to participate and be up there on stage with them. Two encores, one standing ovation and finishing the evening with Ballroom Blitz, left the audience wanting more, but feeling oh, so satisfied.

Bravo to the entire cast. For a short time you made this writer feel that just for a moment, she could dance too and didn't possess two left feet!
