I was feeling adventurous a few weeks ago. I was in the mood to do something new, something I hadn't tried before. Which is when my friend told me about this groupon she had bought for a burlesque show that she couldn't wait to try out.

In my mind a burlesque show equaled fancy dancing and a Moulin Rouge experience. Well we can say this night didn't go as expected. We got a taxi to surry hills to get to our location.

One of my friends is extremely sensitive to smells and quickly gets annoyed with anything that's on the strong side. As soon as we entered the bar, there was a strong off putting smell. This odd scent really caught us by surprise.

To get to the burlesque venue we had to walk up a large flight of stairs. When we got there the atmosphere was laid back, retro and large bed like sofas were scattered around the room. The theme was red/black and everything screamed 'sex' in a subtle way.

The groupon we had gotten included one free drink and finger food. The finger food was great and the free drinks weren't bad either for the minor price we had paid. Til this point everything had been great. I was surprised that I hadn't noticed a stage anywhere since that's where I still believed the dancers would perform. I had ordered a drink called 'The flaming moe' (yes just like the one from that episode in the Simpsons) the drink was the highlight of my night. The glass and the drink both were on fire for quite a while and it tasted delicious.

However the Butlesque show wasn't as good. The girls wore sexy outfits and moved around the room striking poses. Every now and then a dance move would occur. The girls would take breaks after every 5 mins so more drinks could be purchased (which was the whole point, make money by selling alcohol). There was a main host who's entire form of humor was to use crude language which I don't think she pulled off well.

Overall the night was interesting and everyone who went on this outing said they were happy they tried it out but wouldn't do it again. The burlesque show lacked the 'wow factor' however the venue and food were great.
