It all started in 2007 when Hawaiian Brewmaster Brennan Fielding and his Australian wife Peta set up their own brewery at Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.

Their first beer, Duke, was created in the historic tradition of European breweries; available a one day horse and cart ride away from the brewery to maintain it's freshness. To this day, Duke Premium and Duke Helles, both European style lagers, are only available in 'Duke Land' - the Gold Coast and select bottle shops and pubs in Brisbane.

My Wife's Bitter, a classic English bitter named in honour of Peta (in a good way), was introduced as a 'Bit on the Side' and released interstate. It proved so popular - the tongue-in-cheek name and distinctive label probably helped a bit - that it was released as part of their regular line-up.

Since those early days, the brewery has blossomed and won heaps of beer awards. Their most highly awarded beer is HEF, a German style hefeweizen. Hefe means yeast and weizen means wheat; a wheat beer.

28 Pale Ale is an American style pale ale named after the famous twenty-eight day swell at Burleigh Heads in 1975.

My favourite though is BIGHEAD: 100% natural, full flavour, full strength, and no carbs. That's right – nil, nada, zip, zero, zilch. Now you can enjoy a few beers without feeling guilty about it.

Burleigh Brewing have also added two brews to their 'Bit on the Side' department. Black Giraffe is a black coffee beer created in partnership with Zarraffa's Coffee, and Fanny Gertrude's Bickie Beer is a blend of organic coconut, golden syrup, oats, and 100% pure vanilla. Yum.
