It is so unfortunate but this brilliant restaurant has now closed. Nothing to do with the food. But I am so going to miss it. I hope the chef gets to do his magic somewhere else. Sorry for all those who missed it.
It isn't back of Burke, it is Burke's on Main and it is in Bacchus Marsh.
Yet when you walk into this extraordinary place and take in the ambiance, you might think you are in the centre of Melbourne.
And then when you taste the food, you may think you are experiencing the very best of French cuisine in Paris!
But it is just out of the suburbs, in the town of Bacchus Marsh.
There are lots of sweet, cosy cafes in Bacchus Marsh but this is really the only high class restaurant there and it is in the Main street of Bacchus Marsh as the name suggests.
However even though the food is of the highest class, you do not have to worry about the staff dealing you as anything but down to earth and friendly. They will do anything for you!
The main waitress and the head chef, who cooks like he should be multi hatted, are partners and both are on the top of their game with service, cuisine and hospitality. And they have won awards; according to the True Local Burke's on Main has "Fantastic food and friendly service. Relaxed fine dining without the attitude ... [and] offers a blend of both contemporary and classic dishes."
My husband and I first went on a Valentine's Day and we couldn't have asked for a more romantic and tasty evening. We have since been back whenever we can for special occasions and have never been disappointed.
They have a small but varied menu that takes in all the food groups; meat, chicken, seafood and vegetarian dishes. But the biggest treat is theie desserts and they don't mind people turning up just to partake their desserts which include Baked Alaska and Chocolate Souffle (which is to die for).
Their atmosphere, decor and crockery is also perfectly exquisite. So please if you are in the area for a day, or maybe coming home from Ballarat or you are a local and haven't been there before pay a visit!
It is an indulgence money wise but it is well worth it and well worth checking out. From the outside it looks intimate, but there is room out the back for big groups and functions. This lovely place combines country charm with big city indulgence and elegance to the max or to the Marsh as the case may be.
