Burger King Illuminati - Adelaide Fringe

Burger King Illuminati consists of four guys (you know, the archetypal uni students who want to do comedy) wearing t-shirts which nearly match the Wiggles, except that this isn't a kid's show.

BKI have been performing together in Sydney since 2014 but this is their first foray into the Adelaide Fringe.

Their promo says that they 'focus on building a high energy show that's dense with jokes and fun for everyone, from hardcore comedy fans to casual punters'.

I found their one hour of lo-fi comedy in the Gallery Room at the National Wine Centre had its highs and lows.

It was definitely fast-paced, but a little too fast-paced at times. The show comprises a series of short and long skits. The shortest skits were too short because they didn't develop enough and weren't that funny on their own. And I felt there needed to be a stronger thread holding the whole show together - and if the thread was there, it didn't work for me.

That said though, the show improved as it went on and some of the skits worked well. My favourite was the Chess mini musical and the loop pedal section was good too.

However, some sections needed more rehearsal and the scene changes denoted by spinning on the spot didn't work what's wrong with the lights going down?

There are two more shows in the Gallery Room at the National Wine Centre on 17 and 19 February.

I'd definitely go back and see these guys the next time they're in town. It's funny and has some clever ideas but needs more work.
