The Sydney culinary world is currently exploding with an enormous burger revolution. Previous years have provided extremely limited options, relegating Sydneysiders towards more traditional fast food locations. However, the current landscape of the Sydney has put forward a plethora of Burger options to devour, creating incredible variety and immense competition. It would seem that Sydney eateries have taken inspiration from food venues in New York, who arguably have the largest range of burger options on the planet. The trend has even seen the March into Merivale food festival attempt to replicate the famous burger competitions held annually in New York City.
This hasn't gone unnoticed by the guys at Hashtag Burgers, who have created a popular burger appreciation society on social media. What better time to introduce Sydney's biggest burger and beer festival officially known as Burgapalooza. The concept allows guests to taste many of the burger options available around Sydney all from the convenience of one location.
The most popular burger chefs from around town will set up shop at Manning House at the University of Sydney for a two day extravaganza running from Saturday April 16th until Sunday April 17th. It has to be said that the organisers of the festival also have some pedigree. They have previously working on events such as Hastag Burgers' Funk-n-Burgers nights as well as the Burgers by Josh pop-up restaurants. If all goes to plan, Burgapalooza will become an annual event continuously increasing its line up of burgers and chefs.
The inaugural festival will feature brand new culinary creations from some of Sydney's leading burger joints, all of which have been selected by the community known as the Fatties Burger Appreciation Society which can be found on Facebook. Many of the burger hot spots selected have received cult status over recent years, creating a social media competition on who can post the most extravagant burger photos. Each venue will operate their own individual stall, allowing each guest to create their own burger degustation and sample as much burger bliss as possible. Participating venues at this year's event will include:
Chefs from each venue will construct exclusive burger creations specifically designed for the festival, with the aim to maximise the guests ability to sample as many different burgers as possible. Individual portions will be smaller than their regular counterparts, however each burger will be bigger than a slider. All burgers will cost $10 on the day, in addition to an entry fee of $9.14, which can be pre-booked at Oztix.
The format is simple. Each guest will have the opportunity to select between four different dining sessions. This type of format is very similar to how Taste of Sydney operates, offering guests a selection between lunch and dinner which can be reserved prior to the event. This ensures burger lovers guaranteed entry and aims to facilitate minimal waiting times. The Burgapalooza lunch and dinner sessions will run at the following times:
Burgapalooza will also be partnering with the James Squire Brewery, which is certain to make every guest's burger and beer odyssey complete . As an added bonus, each unique burger will be paired with a different beer to ensure a once in a life time experience, for better or worse.
Dessert will also be available compliments of Sydney venue One Tea Lounge. The popular eatery and tea bar will be offering their famous Ice Cream Sliders. Entertainment will also be on site in the form of DJ's soulfully spinning vinyl, with the funky tunes becoming a regular feature at all Hashtag Burgers events.
The event is strictly 18 years and over, so you can leave the kids at home and let the good times roll. Stay up to date for more announcements and surprises via the Burgapalooza event page.
