It's the first day of summer and what better way to celebrate it than a good walk or run around Melbourne's iconic Tan for Bupa Take Steps for Good Health on Sunday 1 December 2013.
This fabulous event embraces people of all fitness levels to participate in the 4km or 8km event to be held from 9am. The track goes around the beautiful King's Domain and the Botanic Gardens so be sure to enjoy the gorgeous environment on your run or walk. Following the event will be a Summer's Healthiest Picnic in Kings Domain in addition to the Wellbeing Exhibition on Tom's Block.
While this event promotes healthy living and educates Australians about diabetes and prevention, it also gives participants the opportunity to fundraise for Diabetes Australia - Vic in order to fund research and kids' camps. With approximately 1.5 million Australians with diabetes, it is vital that we help out as much as we can to support this worthy cause. Beginning at 11am, unroll your picnic blanket and enjoy your yummy home packed picnic consisting of heaps of healthy and nutritious goodies. What's more, if you're a Diabetes Australia - Vic or Bupa member, then you also get access to the exclusive VIP areas with bean bags, umbrellas, roving entertainers, live music, face painting, clowns and magicians. How cool is that?
However, if you're not a member, then don't worry because there will be lots of entertainment for you too, including exciting live music and awesome aerobic performances, and you can also witness the skills of the talented stilt walkers. Keep an eye out for the Healthy Living and Wellbeing Exhibition with live cooking demonstrations which will definitely inspire you in the kitchen, funky fitness demonstrations and a chance to learn about nutritional diets and the secrets to maintaining a healthy lifestyle with the experts. Kids will also have a ball in the bouncing castles, have loads of fun getting their face painted, giggle and laugh madly watching the clowns and even take home some hip balloons from the balloon artists.
