Looking for the perfect family outing this autumn? One that offers a fabulous selection of engaging, educational things to see and do, without stretching the budget too far? Taking place on Sunday March 27th, the annual Bunyip Show might be just the event you've been looking for. Located just eighty-one kilometres south-east of Melbourne, Bunyip is an easy drive – even for excited and impatient youngsters. Despite its proximity to the city, the town has a delightful country town ambience that is particularly tangible during community events such as this.

Bunyip's first show was held way back in 1900, and they've been going strong ever since. Visitors will enjoy the wide range of traditional activities, events and displays that contribute to the show's fun vibe. A good spot to begin your big day out is the exhibition pavilion. It is here that visitors can admire the creations of talented local cooks, with displays of artistically decorated cakes, slices, pikelets, jams, pickles and much more. Paintings, drawings, needlework, woodwork, floral art and other crafty creations will also be exhibited in the pavilion, along with an impressive selection of home-grown fruits and vegetables.

Country show enthusiasts will also enjoy the many events that will take place outside, on the oval. Popular competitions will include sheepdog displays and horse events. Sheep and cattle competitions, and a kennel section are also firm favourites with many animal lovers.

There will also be an assortment of market stalls set up over the two-day event, showcasing local community groups and the creations of artisans, makers and other small businesses. As well as the inevitable showbag, fairy floss and refreshment stands, you can purchase clothing, accessories, handicrafts, candles, jewellery, and much, much more – making it a top spot to pamper yourself or purchase a gift for someone special.

First and foremost, Bunyip Show is a festival that celebrates community values, and this is reflected in its great selection of family entertainment. Youngsters will enjoy the engaging sights and sounds of the event, and naturally there are loads of activities created just for them such as face-painting, pony rides, a petting zoo and much more. Last but not least, there will be a good selection of rides and sideshows. Ranging from traditional merry-go-rounds to scary ghost trains, laughing clowns, and fast, hair-raising rides, there is something for everyone.

With the Melbourne Royal Show six months behind us, now is the time to get our next fairground fix. This year's Bunyip Show will take place on Sunday March 27th, with the gates opening at 9.00am and closing at 3.00pm.

Entry is $10.00 for adults, and $5.00 for seniors, students and children. Family tickets (for two adults and two children) are $20.00.
