Imagine a cafe where you can sit and read a newspaper whilst soft dulcet tones play in the background sending you into a "zenesque" state. All the while, there's a soft whirring sound in the background of coffee beans being freshly grounded to accompany your morning brunch. Now imagine that you're in the heart of South Melbourne, sat across from the bustling market and you sit back and watch whilst not being caught up in the rows of shoppers. If this sounds appealing, then the Bunyip Cafe is a must for all cafe lovers.
The Bunyip cafe is nestled opposite the car park entrance to the South Melbourne Market and hides away with quiet modesty. You'll not find a grand entrance to this place, just a simple doorway as though calling into a friends home. Once you enter (and maybe hang your coat on the bannister rail as you pick up a magazine), you can take a seat in either the classic booths or traditional cafe style seating on the centre floor. Meanwhile, take in the quirky decor as the friendly staff calmly work around you without a stressed face in sight.
The menu has all the traditional classics of any breakfast menu, plus the vegetarian option is pretty impressive. They also provide a paleo breakfast, which i ordered, but kind of ruined the paleo part by ordering a side of their delicious black pudding.
As well as the great tasting food, the Bunyip Cafe take part in the Suspended Coffee scheme which is set-up to provide those that may be financially disadvantaged. So basically, if you're wanting to visit a cafe but feel as though you're sat at home then the Bunyip Cafe is well worth a visit with it's heartwarming environment and great tasting food.
