Located in the amazing Bunya Mountains, the Bunya Mountains Accommodation Centre at Dandabah is your first stop to get your keys, where you will enter the lovely and scenic Rainforest Road that will take you to your home away from home for the weekend.
With a name like Bunya Paradise how can you go wrong? So we decided to take on this accommodation and we were not disappointed.
The drive along the road shows many of the 90 homes and cabins to rent, so you get a good look at several of them as you drive along. There is so much to choose from here and you have the choice where to pick from, based on how many are in your group and what you are looking for. All of them are listed on the website so you can see them before you drive up here.
Make sure you bring friends to enjoy with you. Different accommodations up here cater to different numbers of people. Bunya Paradise sleeps 8, though 2 of those would have to sleep on the pull out sofa in the loft, which is not so bad, really. There is 6 chairs to use at the dining room table but 8 can sit comfortably outside on the deck.
The fireplace is an absolute bonus, heats the living room wonderfully and can be used all the while you are there. Check before you come as you will need kindling and firewood, maybe even an axe, but again, this will depend on where you are staying.
If you get a chance, the deck is a great place to see, to sit, to watch the birds and the magnificent sunset.
The kitchen is well stocked with pretty much all the implements you need to cook your meals, though make sure you refer to the list of items they give you to bring. We were short on was garbage bags.
Then there is the area you are spending time in. There is no shortage of wallabies and colorful birds to keep you entertained. The Bunya Mountains National Park sits adjacent and you can choose one of several hikes, all are varying lengths.
There are some shops and a few restaurants that serve lovely, homemade dishes, complete with Bunya nuts at the accommodation centre.
