Hardware Cafes and Playgrounds at Bunnings

Most women I know dread going to hardware stores – but not I. Why? Because I go to Bunnings where they serve coffee and cake and where you can lock your little ones up in an excellent secure playground and have a few minutes of peace and quiet.
All Bunnings come with a playground and most also contain a decent café, funnily enough called The Hardware Café. These cafes are open 7 days a week from 9.00am – 5.00pm. Now they are not your cool hipster joint but they are a place where you can have a decent coffee (Map fair trade coffee to be exact) and sit and browse through a magazine or book provided by Bunnings – whilst keeping an eye on your little ones in the playground next door.
The cafes are clean and the staff are very friendly. The menu is obviously limited – mainly cakes, Byron Bay cookies and pies – and it is very reasonable. Regular coffees are $3.30 and babycinos are $1.00. Kid's juices are $1.20. Most cakes and cookies are priced between $2.00 - $3.00. You order and pay at the counter. All coffees and food are served in or on disposable cups and plates.
Other child friendly aspects of the cafes are that they provide high chairs, have plenty of room for prams and the toilets are normally quite close by and they all have a baby change table. Also on weekends Bunnings provide some sort of activity for your child to participate in like face painting or craft.
It is the perfect rainy day activity as you can mostly park undercover and catch a lift or travelator up to the entrance. Your kids will be entertained, you can grab a coffee fix and all for very little money. Much better than going to those oh so expensive play centres.
You can also get your kids excited about gardening and pick up some really cheap potted colour or vegie seedlings and go home and brighten your garden and also your day completely caffeinated.
