Bundilla Mexican Restaurant sits on Brisbane Road Mooloolaba, only a short walk from the glitz and glamour that is the Mooloolaba Esplanade, but don't be fooled by this little gem's unassuming street presence, because once 5pm comes around, Bundilla Mexican is anything but unassuming.
The restaurant has a small dine-in area for those preferring to savour their fare in-house, however the majority of clientèle opt for take-away or delivery. With the surf and sand of Mooloolaba beach only a 10 minute walk away, and an array of beachside picnic tables available, we decided to order take-away for a moonlight picnic on the sand.
Menu options are generous and fairly-priced. Entrees start at $5.50 (for Chilli Dip with homemade chilli sauce and chips), with the most expensive main meal at $24.50 (chilli prawns crumbed, deep fried, served with Bundilla's special chilli mix). My partner and I opted for two combos, as they provided variety and good value for money. He chose 'the hot one' with a beef enchilada, albondigas and rellenos. I chose combo 2, featuring a beef enchilada, taco and taquitos. Each combo was $15.95.
While I struggle with chilli, spice, and anything hot, my partner thoroughly enjoyed the rellenos (a deep-fried jalapeño chilli) and would certainly order 'the hot one' again.
Overall, Bundilla Mexican provides a great value for money and is a great option for those wanting to avoid the crowds of the Mooloolaba Esplanade.
The restaurant is open from 5pm Wednesdays to Sundays, and be sure to phone ahead if you wish to book a table as space is limited.
