Three weekends ago, my boyfriend and I visited Bundanoon, a small town south of Sydney near Bowral.

We stayed at the - oh what a treat! If you have a penchant for vintage and appreciate unassuming country hospitality - this is your place.

The hotel dates back to 1922. It has a wonderful brick exterior, lush gardens, high patterned ceilings and an eccentric Scottish flavour. One quirk of our room was that it did not include a toilet (but curiously did have a shower)!

The WC was located down the hallway, a few meters from our room. For those who prefer their own facilities, there are ensuite rooms. But honestly, it didn't bother us in the end.

is one of the few more affordable hotels left that offers class and charm to visitors. The overgrown garden, antique furnishings and facilities offer an ambiance that many budget hotels neglect.

My boyfriend and I wondered around the grounds, played tennis, went for a swim in the hotel pool and read our books in the lounge area on our room level with a glass of wine.
