I'd never visited the Hummock Lookout in my previous visits to the area and the day I chose to go was not the best. Heavy rain pelted down as I reached the top of the Hummock. I am surprised the photos came out so well.
It is a place of interesting history. It is the remains of an extinct volcano. It was seen and recorded by Matthew Flinders as he sailed past in 1799 and there is a memorial to Bert Hinkler. Read the stories
here.
On a good day, the views would be better and taking binoculars would also be a good idea.
There is a small shelter but the rain was heavy and almost horizontal while I was there, so my visit was short. The photos give you an idea of the fabulous views from the Hummock and I am sure if I had been there on a "fine day", the views would be better.
Oh, and if you like taking photos - there are great views!
