The big round neon-lit rubber tubes could be mistaken for UFOs if you saw them in the night air but on the ground at this pop-up outdoor ice rink, there's no aliens landing and these bumper cars will have you taking control via the handles on each side. You can move forward, backwards, sideways and even perform a 360 degree rapid spin on the slippery and chilly surface.
It's fast and furious action if you want it or you can move around slowly bumping, nudging or sliding into friends and strangers. It's up to you.
A fiesta of sorts, DJ's will be spinning tunes and the lights will be dimmed as you enjoy the cars. After your session, you can warm up at the winter bar with cocktails and mulled wine. There's also food to devour as well as photo opportunities with props and some fun games.
If you happen to be having a birthday, then this event makes for an awesome party idea. Twinkling lights add to the atmosphere, making it a wonderful evening whether you're celebrating something personal or not.
Tickets are $37.84 via Eventbrite and are extremely limited, so you'll need to get in fast if you don't want to miss out. Included is a 15minute bumper ride, along with entry into the winter wonderland. Sessions run from 6pm-10pm Friday, 12pm-10pm Saturday and 2pm-8pm Sunday. Note from 7pm-10pm, it is adults only (both nights). All ages are accepted during all other sessions. Young ones who can't reach the handles must sit with a parent in the car. Under 5's with a parent are free.
Outside of this event, the Ice Zoo has a lot going for it. Apart from ice skating and lessons, you can have fun trying ice hockey, watch skaters practice their figure skating, take an ice fitness class and, for toddlers, enjoy snow play. On Saturday nights, there's more fun at Disco on Ice with DJ's providing music and fantastic light shows.
If you haven't been on ice much, then Ice Zoo and this event will have you becoming an ice baby in no time.
