Following in the wake of the super exciting yet super expensive Ekka, comes the 2013 Bulimba Festival, a street fair celebration that may serve as an Ekka alternative for the budget conscious. Held along the main drag of Oxford Street on Sunday August 25th from 9.00am - 4.00pm, this family friendly day of fun and entertainment has a lot to offer for a fraction of the cost.
Attracting a record 100,000 plus attendees last year - myself included, the festival which is an RSL initiative showcases the best of Bulimba in an atmosphere of community and celebration. The renowned Oxford Street will be abuzz with live entertainment, fashion parades, buskers, cooking demonstrations and 250 market stalls including a host of fabulous food offerings (let's hope Divine Doughnuts are back this year).

This year's entertainment line-up includes Aussie icons Frankie J. Holden, Wilbur Wilde, Joe Camilleri and the inimitable Royal Australian Navy Band. Further live entertainment can be found at Kid's Corner in Bulimba Memorial Park, where a miniature sideshow alley featuring amusement rides, farm animals and facepainting will be on hand to keep the kids happy.
Parking for the festival is limited to surrounding streets so be prepared to walk away if you can't find one close by. Entry to the event is free, however a gold coin donation upon entry is encouraged with all proceeds going to support current and returned defence personnel. Support the Queensland RSL, farewell winter and enjoy a day of fun, food, entertainment, and shopping at the 2013 Bulimba Festival.
