Bulimba is too good for just a one day celebration
The Bulimba Festival, beloved by locals as well as many participants from both sides of the Brisbane River divide, has undergone a major revamp for 2015. No longer just a one day celebration of the riverside suburb, Bulimba Festival 2015 will be an action-packed week of events and activities (from Monday 9 November to Sunday 15 November) showcasing the very best Bulimba has to offer.
There's something for young, old and those in-between on the festival program, which you can see online here. Below are some of the program highlights.
Launch and Launch Party - 9 November
The action kicks off on Monday 9 November at 9am with the official festival launch at the historic Bulimba Ferry Terminal, Bulimba's most recognisable landmark. The festival launch party will be held from 6pm to 11pm that night at the popular Barcadia Kitchen and Bar (136 Oxford St), with drinks at standard bar prices.
Oxford Street is one of Brisbane's most popular 'eat streets'. The only problem is choosing from the wide variety of restaurants and cafes along its length. Not so on Tuesday 10 November when Bulimba Festival Friends such as Barcadia, Grill'd , Oxford 152, Panchos, Sugo Mi, and The Jetty will offer tasting plates so you've got room to visit more than one - pure Bulimba brilliance.
Movies in the Park aren't just for kids and on Friday 13 November from 7pm to 10 pm at Memorial Park, Councillor Shayne Sutton will host a suitably scary film for the adults (film yet to be announced). You can also enjoy live music and food from local vendors.
As one of Brisbane's most popular riverside suburbs life at Bulimba revolves around the sinuous brown thread of Brisbane River. On Saturday 14 November you can sit back and watch the sailing action on the river, or relax with your own picnic or purchase food and drinks from Brisbane Sailing Club and Bulimba Golf club. if you're feeling adventurous let Brisbane Outriggers instruct you and then take you out on the water for your own paddling experience. And the best thing is that it's free. You must register online here where more information about the sessions is also available. You can also join in with free Pilates on the River Sessions. Register here.
Jelly Fun Run - 14 November
The annual ICANIWILL Jelly Run is this year a part of Bulimba Festival on Saturday 14 November from 9am to 12 noon. Run as anindividual or as part of a team, get fit and sticky and raise money for kids with special needs. You can register online here.
Lunch on the Lawn on Sunday 15 November is the festival's signature event. Described as a "celebration of food, wine and family", there will be plenty of activities for the kids, market stalls, gourmet food, licensed bars and live music from Brisbane bands, including local band, The Grates. There's even a kewpie doll treasure hunt. The event runs all day until 6pm followed by after parties at Barcadia and Oxford 152. Entry is free but a gold coin donation on the day would be appreciated. Please register online for catering purposes.
