Enjoy nature in comfort
In a previous life, I spent many a night sleeping in a swag under starry skies in remote parts of Australia. I loved it at the time but frankly, I don't ever need to do it again. I still enjoy the tranquility of the bush and the vista of bespangled skies but I don't miss the ubiquitous critters. I require a bit more comfort nowadays and that's where Bukirk comes in.

It's a magical place, on the outskirts of Clare, comprising five elegant tents that promise rustic comfort and protection from the less desirable aspects of nature.

Each tent is named after a variety of chicken......

most of which are represented here in real life and can often be heard mentioning the name of their home (bukirk)!

There is also a small flock of sheep nearby and a resident pig who goes by the name of Kevin Bacon.

My glamping companion and I recently spent two wonderful nights at Bukirk, enjoying comfort and nature in equal measures. The queen-size bed, fitted with crisp, white hotel linen, was warm and cozy.

We didn't need the fan or heater but it was reassuring to know we could temperature control our tent if necessary.

We had the convenience of an ensuite bathroom with plenty of hot water available.

The tents share a common area offering full kitchen facilities, a TV, sofa and board games. The fridge is stocked with basic necessities including the freshest eggs from the onsite brood.

Bukirk is the inspiration of Alison "Chook" Meaney. Alison has a thing for chickens and when she began her glamping project in 2017 she decided on a chicken theme. The tents have proved extremely popular and Alison recently added two even fancier options - known as Fancy Coops.

Alison describes 'The Perch' and 'The Nesting Box' as next-level luxury and indeed they are.

Each features a king-size bed, lounge area with TV, luxury bathroom and glamorous kitchen area.

The Fancy Coops are air-conditioned for climate control.

Alison has plans for a swimming pool and boutique store on site.

There's plenty to see and do nearby, including cycling and sipping your way along the Riesling Trail. However, you could understandably be tempted to settle in here with a good book and a bottle of local wine and not venture far from your tent.

Now that's what I call camping Karen. Definitely five-star compared with my previous endeavors.

Very fancy indeed, but that resident chook stole my heart.
