Nothing beats cinema under the stars. Build your own backyard movie theatre and enjoy the convenience of open air movies any night of the week. The best part – you get to pick the movie.
The most important piece of equipment for an open air cinema is a video projector. This little gadget will convert your DVDs onto the big screen. They can be costly – the cheapest is around $600 while a top of the range projector will set you back about $2000. A temporary and less expensive option is to hire one.
You will also need a large white screen to project the movie onto. You can use a special projection screen, a holland blind or a white sheet secured to a wall; if your wall is white, you don't even need to worry about the sheet.
Finally, you will need a stand on which to place the video projector. Again, you can go as professional or as amateur as you like, but it will need to be high enough so that the video will project onto the screen. You might like to purchase something with draws and cupboards to store your DVDs.
Consider wear and tear when you set up your outdoor cinema. Will you be storing your equipment inside and dragging it outside every time you need it? If that sounds like too much work, you will need to waterproof your area. Consider building a storage area or investing in some heavy duty tarps.
