The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 Library Edition was published by Boom! Studios on 28 January 2020. It is 272 pages long and is the first collected edition of season 11 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It contains issues 1 through to 12 of the series along with bonus content. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 was originally published by Dark Horse Comics from November 2016 to October 2017. The Dark Horse Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel comic book series were considered to be the canonical continuation of the Buffy and Angel tv series presented in the format of television series. Joss Whedon served as the executive producer of the comics. Dark Horse's licence to Buffy expired in 2018 and was transferred to Boom! Studios in September of that year.

I adored the Dark Horse Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics. I was a huge fan of the Buffy television show, so when I heard the series was going to be continuing as a comic, I jumped right on that hype train. Buffy was such a huge part of my life when I was growing up. I was so sad when the show ended. The Dark Horse comics filled that void. I loved the illustrations and the characters and the stories felt just like a continuation of the show.

When Dark Horse lost the Buffy licence, I was devastated. I was halfway through collecting the Buffy season ten library editions. It was so frustrating to think I might not be able to finish collecting each of the volumes. When I heard that Boom! Studios was going to continue the library editions and release season 11 for the first time, I was so excited. Boom! Studios has done a great job with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 library edition. This is a high quality, well-made book. It has a nice firm spine, beautiful coloured pages, is not too heavy to carry around, the ink did not smudge, the pages did not fall out or rip, and it has a fantastic, gorgeous front cover featuring Buffy front and centre.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 opens with Buffy and the Scoobies living in San Francisco and enjoying a well-deserved break from fighting evil. When a dragon is unleashed on the city, triggering a tsunami that causes massive devastation, supernatural beings are blamed for the catastrophe and are rounded up and put into concentration camps. Buffy is faced with a choice, either be separated from her friends and family and be relocated to the camps for supernatural beings, or join the Slayers being recruited to help police magical folk.

Buffy decides to willingly relocate to the camp, along with Willow and Spike, as a form of protest. Once inside the Safe Zone, Buffy, Willow and Spike struggle to survive, make friends, and experience prejudice, fear and oppression inside the camp. Will Buffy be able to survive life in the camp long enough to be able to figure out what caused the disaster in San Francisco, save her friends, and protect supernatural beings from a plot the US Government is cooking up to drain them of their magic?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 was a fantastic read. What I love about these comics is how much the writers understand each of the characters and their motivations. All of the characters in this book act and speak and sound the same as their television counterparts which makes the comic really work as a canonical continuation of the television series.

Another highlight of the book is the illustrations which are really fantastic and do a great job at capturing Buffy's character. In one scene, Buffy gets into a fight in the camp, and is rushed by a group of demons. A slayer guard offers to help, but Buffy turns around, and gives her a fierce glare. Her face is blood-splattered and her jaw is clenched hard. "No," she says. "I've got this." She doesn't want the other slayer's help. She doesn't need anyone to fight her battles for her. She is not a damsel in distress. She is Buffy Summers, one girl in all the world, who was chosen at fifteen to be the next vampire slayer, and then decided to share her power with thousands of other women around the world. She is the thing that monsters have nightmares about. She is the Slayer.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 11 is a fantastic chapter in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series. Boom! Studios has done a great job collecting this comic in a handsome, hardback edition. Fans of the comic series will definitely want to add it to their collection.
