Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Season 1) - TV Series Review

I have been regressing into my teen years recently and have consequently come across my Buffy DVDs.

So let's have a look back at season one for now. Buffy 's first series is I would argue seriously underrated. Half the length of the other six series, the stories are considerably simpler and go much more in line with the traditional vampires/demons/myths that we all know and love.

On one level this works much better because the rules of the series are much more set in place and therefore the audience can make the logic leap much more easily. The series is also largely very well written and most importantly funny. The jokes keep on coming in between the horror and the crying moments.

Sarah Michelle Gellar as the infamous Buffy walks a fine line between humour and tragedy and largely thanks to good writing doesn't cross over into parody.

Highlights of the series include the pilot itself – the story is entertaining and gives some great hints of what is to come.

Out of sight, out of mind featuring a vengeful girl attacking Cordelia ( always fun) is another great one largely because of the sympathy you have for the villain.

Angel for all the David Boreanaz fans out there is a great one as well, the ultimate doomed romance in all it's 90's glory.

Prophecy Girl is also a brilliant finale showing all the great strengths of the series, the humour, the horrible tragedy and ultimately how unfair the world is.

The series has worn well and is still lots of fun!
