A visit to the town of Mannum would not be complete without getting up close and personal with the river, and it's always nice to begin or round off your day with a coffee or a meal at one of the local cafes or restaurants, right? But if you want a really unique way to combine these two pleasures, then I recommend a visit to the .

Buena Vista is a houseboat/café moored at the beautiful new Mannum Waters Marina, just 5 kilometres out of Mannum on Pelican Drive. Owners Don and Kate have been operating the café for around six months and found the community so warm and friendly that they have decided to become locals. They recently bought a block overlooking the marina to fulfil their retirement dream and concentrate on growing the café's future.

The decision to buy the houseboat in 2015 was an easy one, and after a complete fit-out and sorting out some early teething problems with the hydraulics, they opened for business on December 5th and have not looked back.

The café is open from 8.30 am until 4 pm on weekends but Don and Kate hope to extend their trading times later in 2016.

The simple but delicious menu includes tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a variety of cold refreshments, a Devonshire tea or a choice of meals like egg and bacon sandwich, toasted sandwiches, bagels, muffins and croissants with cake or apple pie for desert.
My pick would be the salmon, avocado and cream cheese bagel. Yum!

Don and Kate are cheerful and welcoming and always up for a chat with both locals and tourists. You can enjoy your coffee or meal overlooking the water from the deck on a nice day or stay warm inside by the wood fire in the winter and still take in the view.

The Buena Vista café boat is my favourite spot for a lazy breakfast on the weekends and I for one am looking forward to the extended opening hours so that I can visit more often.
