Smuggle your budgie around Southbank with friends @ twilight
Does the idea of hundreds of grown men and women wearing red budgie smugglers or "smugglettes" in Southbank sound crazy?
What about the idea of disabled and high care Australian teenagers and young people wasting their life away in aged care facilities?
The Budgie Bolt is a Youngcare initiative held at twilight on 20 March 2015 at Southbank. It's an opportunity for men and women to wear their best smugglers for a 6km run around Southbank to raise money for Youngcare. Community and corporate groups get behind this great cause as a fun day out to raise awareness and much needed funds to provide choice, dignity and independence for young Aussies with high care needs.
Everyone is welcome - brave blokes, gutsy gals and courageous kids all running together in stand-out red Budgy Smugglers or Smugglettes. Just get a team together or a couple of friends, or do it solo. Either way, jump on to the Youngcare website and register your entry and start fundraising. A couple of dollars from everyone doing their bit makes a difference, and it's a fun day out in the Southbank sun. Looking for fundraising tips, check out the great ideas on the Youngcare website.
Once you register you'll get information closer to the date about how and where to pick up your smuggler satchel. Or if you don't have time to register, just turn up on the day and register then. There is no cost for team registration, just the individual registration.
This event has raised almost $400,000 so far for young Aussies in desperate need. Because no matter how uncomfortable you might feel running in your budgies, it's not nearly as uncomfortable as being a young person in aged care.
The Budgie Bolt is held at Southbank on 20 March, 2015. The event starts at 5:15pm (event village open from 2pm). Participants meet at the Cultural Forecourt, Southbank.
Registration cost is $35. For frequently asked questions and other information see the Youngcare website.
