Family holidays are special for making memories. As children grow, each holiday takes on a different meaning and parents need to adjust where to go to keep children interested and engaged. Along with finding the right place, the other issue with family holidays is the expense, which can be managed. So, here are some suggestions for holidaying with kids in NSW that are budget- and family-friendly.

At the Batemans Bay Marina Resort, which is only a 15-minute walk from the town centre, you will be spoilt for choice to find things to do - swim, play tennis, kids playground, mini-golf, or access the water activities. Close to Corrigans Beach and the boat ramp, there is also the championship 27-hole golf course across from the resort.

They offer self-contained villas; if you want extra luxury, there is also a range of villas with waterfront views and spas.

Address: 85-189 Ocean View Rd, corner Schnapper Rd, Ettalong
    Email: [email protected]
    Hours: 7 days - 8 am to 6 pm

Quirky, arty and different were words that came to mind when I first saw this resort on a short stay in Ettalong. The Ettalong Beach Tourist Resort boasts its very own Art Deco, multi-screen cinema called Cinema Paradiso and this is not the only thing they offer. You can spend weekends away here, hold conferences, weddings, and private functions. Also, they cater for children's birthday parties at the cinema with seating for up to 200 people available.

With the atmosphere of a Mediterranean village, the resort offers boutique accommodation. You can choose from fine dining, cafes or alfresco eateries and enjoy a spot of shopping at the Ettalong Village Market. Facilities include a lap pool and spa, but Brisbane Waters or Ettalong Beach are nearby.

You will make many happy memories at the Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Resort. Right by the beach, you have the choice of camping only metres from the sand or choosing other accommodation within the park like cabins and caravan sites.

Enjoy the resort-style pool and it is safe for kids to roam around with the atmosphere being friendly and welcoming. If you decide to camp, bring along pets, they are welcome too.

We have stayed in Port Macquarie a few times over the years and we enjoyed the beach as well as the river. The Hastings River offers many cruises and water sports such as kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, windsurfing, and water skiing.

Nelson Bay is another holiday spot we enjoyed with our children. We ate gelato as we walked along D'Albora Marina and we often enjoyed a meal at the Seabreeze Hotel. The Kid's Corner meals were reasonably priced.
