9 hills, 76kms, 3 hours!
Nine hills, seventy-six kilometres and a time limit of three hours! It might sound like craziness to most, but to those who absolutely love cycling, the Buderim9 Challenge Ride is an exhilarating 76km cycling event, encompassing nine of the fiercest hills in and around Buderim. It's not a race, it's a mammoth challenge!

Early Bird registration is now open!
In December 2010 a small group of cyclists living in the shadows of the Buderim Hill decided to cycle Buderim from every available hill. These very energetic thrill-seekers stopped counting at nine hills, but were quick to tell some mates, who told other mates and on the day there were about thirty keen-as-mustard cyclists, all at the start line. It was the last Sunday before Christmas and so the Buderim9 Challenge Ride tradition was born and eleven years later, continues to grow in
pedals and cycles.

The Pyjama Foundation is the charity of choice for 2021
Why not take up the challenge and become a member of the exclusive Buderim9 Club and help
The Pyjama Foundation charity, supporting the Pyjama Angels program and Sunshine Coast children in foster care. For those who feel they are not quite at the Buderim9 Challenge level, there is also the -
Buderim6 version, with the objective of completing the first six hills of the course; or the
Buderim3 version, aiming to complete the first three hills of the course; or the
Buderim Electric version, unfortunately no getting out of a hill or two here, electric bike riders need to complete the full nine hill course.
The Challenge Ride organisers intend having all the appropriate safety measures in place, including marshals, mobile First Aid plus a police presence.

The hills are alive with the sound of cyclists!
In 2021 the Buderim9 Challenge Ride will be slightly different. All the hills and cycling locations will remain the same, but riders will notice -
The upside: registration costs have been decreased;
The downside: riders, unfortunately, won't be receiving rider jerseys this year;
There will be limited on-ground activities under the event Covid Plan
The Pyjama Foundation is a totally new fundraising recipient. The Pyjama Foundation provide children in foster care with the opportunity to change the direction of their lives with learning, life skills and confidence. Through the
Love of Learning Program, volunteers called
'Pyjama Angels' are recruited, screened, trained and then matched with a child in care, spending time with them once a week and focusing on learning-based activities.

Challenge yourself ...
In 2021, the Buderim9 committee is collaborating with the
Australian Cycling Academy, who are running the
Sunshine Coast Cycle weekend for elite riders as well as a community ride on the Coast's bike paths. Buderim9 will share event infrastructure at the University of Sunshine Coast's Stadium for the event's start and finish. Cyclists in the Buderim9 Challenge are amateur cyclists with experience of road riding, attracting a different audience to the Australian Cycling Academy events.

All cyclists are welcome to the Buderim9, Buderim6, Buderim3 or Buderim Electric
All riders for the
Buderim9,
Buderim6,
Buderim3 and
Buderim Electric will leave together, from the USC Stadium and cycle under police escort along a neutral zone to the roundabout of Dixon Road and Karawatha Drive, where the distance and time challenge will kick in. Just imagine the electrifying ambience! The challenge is to return in three hours, albeit it
huffed and puffed, regardless of how much of the course you have managed to complete.
Children who love to cycle are also welcome. On a previous Challenge Ride, former champion Henk Vogels rode with his son, Mack, on the Buderim3 course.
