3-week series at 1.30 pm Sundays from 24 November
If you are new to Buddhism or meditation, and would like to understand the main ideas and learn some basic meditation, this three-week course provides a quick introduction.
No matter what your faith (or non-faith) background, you can apply Buddha's teachings to your daily life, which can help change your way of thinking and being in the world. Starting with an explanation of the Four Noble Truths, the course teacher will cover the main principles of Buddhism and explain how you can integrate them into your daily life to bring about real change. You will be taught the 1-2-3s of how to get set up and get started with a regular meditation practice.Rosie McKew, the course teacher, studied for many years with the Society's founder and spiritual guide Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. Rosie is a pharmacist.
Classes are held in our beautiful peaceful Tibetan temple from 1.30 to 3pm. Come along to any class in the series. Everyone is welcome. We've got comfortable seating including chairs and meditation cushions. Class is followed by delicious afternoon tea for those who'd like to stay.
The Tibetan teacher and founder of the Tibetan Buddhist Society, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden, brought these excellent teachings to Australia after a lifetime of study and practice. Geshe Loden passed away in 2011 but his legacy lives on through the program of teachings and the wonderful facilities at the Peaceful Land of Joy Meditation Centre in Yuroke. Each class will incorporate a talk, guided meditation and question and answer session in the traditional Tibetan temple followed by afternoon tea. The facility charge is $10, with proceeds to support maintenance of the temple and gardens. The Tibetan Buddhist Society's Peaceful Land of Joy Meditation Centre is located just 45 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, at 20 Cookes Road, Yuroke.
