The much-loved, annual Buddha's Day & Multicultural Festival returns to Federation Square for its 25th anniversary on the weekend of 15 & 16 May 2021.
Entry is FREE and all are welcome to join in the vibrant festivities! Look forward to an explosion of culture, entertainment, traditional Buddhist ceremonies, Bathing Buddha, meditation, lion dances, children's activities and so much more!
Proudly presented by Fo Guang Shan Melbourne and Buddha's Light International Association of Victoria, the Buddha's Day & Multicultural Festival is recognised as a significant event in Melbourne's calendar. People of all ages and backgrounds are invited to come along and celebrate our multicultural society and commemorate the birth of Buddha.
Over two jam-packed days, the 25th-anniversary program will showcase a wide range of special events, art installations and activities.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic that has caused widespread disruption and loss in our community and globally, the inaugural Light It Up ceremony will launch the 2021 Buddha's Day & Multicultural Festival by celebrating light overcoming darkness and hope over despair.
A dramatic Lion Dance will herald in a spectacular animated light display that will spread across the facade of Federation Square and drench the Main Square with an animated story of the life of Buddha against a Kaleidoscopic background of floral and artistic elements.
