The 26th annual Buddha's Birthday and Multicultural Festival returns to Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour as a spectacular two-day event on the weekend of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of May 2018 (Mother's Day weekend).

All are welcome to attend this vibrant and festive community event which celebrates Buddha's birthday and shares a message of peace.

Organised by Nan Tien Temple, its various Sydney branches, and the Buddha's Light International Association (BLIA) Sydney, the Festival includes a variety of attractions, one of its most famous being the International Vegetarian Food Fair which unites culinary delights from China, Japan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and other nations.

Of course, a Festival and Celebration could hardly be called one without music and dancing, and visitors can expect a great line-up of live cultural performances from China, India, Sri Lanka, Japan, Europe and Australia, as well as fun activities and elightening workshops for all ages.

Attend bright and early at 9am and take part in the free tea meditation ceremonies and Tai Chi exercise in the morning. However, late risers need not worry about missing out on unique experiences, with Dharma and mindfulness seminars being held in the afternoon.

A tradition of Buddha's Birthday is the Bathing of the Buddha and Purification of Our Minds Ceremony, an act which symbolises the purification of our body, speech and mind, so we remain pure and free of greed, hatred and ignorance.

In addition, the Festival also introduces guests to other religious and cultural activities such as:

  • Mother's Day and Baby Blessing Ceremony

  • Blessing Ceremony for World Peace

  • Buddhism books, arts and gifts

  • Art and craft workshops for adults and children

  • One Stroke Calligraphy exhibition

Every year when Buddha's Birthday approaches, one thing is always certain: that it will be a special event, one which encourages multiculturalism and cooperation between all peoples.

This year's Festival is sure to be a wonderful day out for the whole family. People of all ages and cultural backgrounds are invited to discover rich and diverse cultures, different types of rituals and arts presentations and taste authentic dishes from around the world!

The great support over the years from both state and local government, businesses, religious organisations, Property NSW, and Multicultural NSW have contributed to the continued success of the Buddha's Birthday Multicultural Festival, making it one of the major annual events to be held at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour.
